I have several trips coming up and I'm very excited about all of them! I'm headed to San Fran to visit new friends then off to New York for the Rainbow Book Fair next month. Then New York for Lambda awards then New Orleans! Yeah! Hate flying but love seeing new places. <squeal!>
So today a chipmunk tried to muscle his way into the house. My fault because I had the door wide open and I was cooking. Molly was beside herself with absolute excitement! It has been a long time since she has been able to catch anything. We are members of the Catch and Release program if I get involved early on. Not always the case though. Last year she decided to bring a headless squirrel into the house. She was so proud and I know it's her way of showing love but someday she will understand that a simple snugglefest is acceptable. I won't even tell you about the time she caught the Easter bunny...on Easter. Last night I was sprawled out on the couch reading when I felt something on my arm. I figured it was just my hair and when I looked again, I discovered it was the season's first mosquito! Wth! Last week we were in the 20s. I've had the door open all week because I didn't think bugs would be out so soon and Molly has enjoyed in and out at her leisure. Bummer that I have to close the door now. Mols is bummed, too. I love, love book 3 that I'm working on BUT the research is kicking my ass! People are not cooperating with me. Nobody wants to help a starving artist. My emails are being ignored. It's frustrating. The person/institution who comes through will not only become my best friend, but I will forever be in their debt. I might have to travel outside of KC which means I will have to couch surf for a few days. Any sponsors??? I learned not to wait so long to start a book so I am diligently mind writing book 3 right now. It's shaping up nicely. I have yet to even edit Whirlwind Romance but since it takes almost a year from signed contract to publication date, I am not going to waste any time. Made that mistake once. This unnamed story has a love interest who is older and has a daughter. This is so important because there are so many single moms out there who have to raise their children by themselves and find time to date. This will be a heartfelt and fun story and I'm anxious to get it rolling. Then after book 3 comes the continuation of Ali and Bethany... but with a twist that hopefully everybody will like! <giggle giggle> I do love writing poetry. I am thinking of self-publishing a book on Amazon. Maybe 80 - 100 poems divided into diff categories. I just don't know how much people like to read poetry. My poems rareIy have structure. I guess I am wondering how many people still read poetry. When i was in college, my creative writing teacher was also my poetry teacher. He disliked my short stories immensely, but loved my poetry. Huh. Anyway, I think I will give it a try and see what happens. Wish me luck! I woke up this morning to find out that Jolt is a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award! What an incredible honor. I am giddy and happy and thrilled. I know Jolt is the dark horse of the bunch, but how cool is all of this?!?! Just to be in the finals is something I really never thought possible. At least not this early in my writing career. I like Jolt because it's a simple story about trust and falling in love again. We have all been there. Sometimes it's nice to know there are others out there, fictional or not, who have the same struggles finding that trust again. Oh and the excitement of learning another person and letting them into your life! The first touch, the first kiss and the first time you make love. Sigh! Thank you for enjoying it as much as I had writing it. More to come on Ali and Bethany...stay tuned! Last night I slept. It's not something I do often but when it happens, I take advantage. Unfortunately, I have a rather busy day today. I have to wear adult clothes today instead of yoga pants and hoodies because I have to go out in public. One of my friends is running for city council and she asked me to take head shots. Normally sweats and or yoga pants would be acceptable BUT we will be down on the plaza, the "nice" part of town. And I believe lunch is involved. So I need to dig around for acceptable clothing and figure out what to do with my hair. Also I need to work today, too. I did get back some options on my new book cover so I will mull those over and see which one sticks. |
